Our First Book

Congratulations on our first meeting, guys! I think we all enjoyed ourselves watching Vinnie go crazy over Oreos, seeing Cai make me guess his name, being in awe of Jacob's Superman shirt being the same as mine, hearing Ben come up with my new nickname of Werewilf and trying to keep up with Finlay's list of cool horror book scenes.

Frankly, I'm exhausted!

I'm glad you all picked out books that you liked - and it was particularly cool that you all volunteered to read extracts from each of them. However, we did manage to choose our first ever Lowdham Book Group (cool name still under construction) book and it was;

Arthur Ness and the Secret of Waterwhistle, Part 1

Seeing as I wrote this book, I'm not going to lie - I'm very thrilled you chose to read it. It certainly has plenty of action, humour and scary stuff that you all seemed to like (sorry, though, Vinnie, no vampires!).

Since you'll be getting into all things Arthur Ness, you should definitely check out www.arthurness.com as well.

The Bookcase will get copies in for each of you and they'll let you know when they're ready for you to collect.

Just to expand on some of the stuff we talked about yesterday, the rules of Lowdham Book Group (cool name still under construction) are;

1. Read the first couple of chapters
2. If you don't enjoy it, don't force yourself to keep going (reading is meant to be fun, not work!)
3. Come onto this blog and talk about stuff you like in the book and stuff you don't like
4. Keep Vinnie away from Oreos
5. Enjoy yourself!

We will meet again in another half term (I'll arrange with your parents nearer the time) so until then, have a crazy time!

Welcome to the brand new blog for the Lowdham Book Group (cool name still under construction).

We gathered together to have a flick through our first set of books and decide which one we're going to read first. To take a leaf from the Oscars;

"The nominees for the first Lowdham Books Group (cool name still under construction) book are..."

Artemis Fowl is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history and with his trusty sidekicks, Butler and Juliet, in tow he hatches a cunning plot to divest the fairyfolk of their pot of gold. Of course, he isn't foolish enough to believe in all that "gold at the end of the rainbow" nonsense. Rather, he knows that the only way to separate the little people from their stash is to kidnap one of their number and wait for the ransom to arrive. But when the time comes to put his plan into action he reckons without Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police Reconnaisance) Unit--a sort of extra small Clarice Starling with pointy ears and wings--and her senior officer Commander Root, a man (sorry, elf) who will stop at nothing to get her back.	Arthur Ness is a lonely, scared young boy - evacuated from wartime London to live in the countryside village of Waterwhistle, there's a lot for him to get used to. The fields, the farm animals, the quiet. But the more Arthur explores his new home, the more it becomes evident that the village's strangeness may not all be in his mind. Arthur begins to uncover clues that seem to suggest that his host, the very scary Lady Eris, may have something to do with the village's frightful silence. And then, of course, there's the talking cat...
